1) NCAA To Require HS & JUCO To Disclose Deals?
The NCAA is considering a new rule that would require all incoming Division I athletes to disclose any NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals they had in high school or junior college. This is part of the fallout from the recent House settlement, which aims to prevent "pay-for-play" arrangements.
Athletes would have to report all non-institutional deals to a new clearinghouse called NIL Go starting from their junior year of high school. While the exact penalties are still being determined, failing to comply could result in a loss of eligibility.

2) College Football Player Compensation Reaches $1.9B
College football player compensation is projected to reach $1.9 billion this year, a huge jump from 2021. This is thanks to schools now sharing revenue with athletes, a new income stream that will account for the majority of player earnings ($1.4 billion).
However, most players aren't millionaires. A new report shows that 66.5% earn less than $10,000 annually, with only a tiny fraction making over a million dollars. The data also reveals that transferring schools can significantly boost an athlete's earnings and that high school recruits are now receiving multi-million dollar offers.

3) YouTube & Fox Reach Short Term Deal
Google and Fox have reached a short-term agreement to prevent Fox channels from being removed from YouTube TV. This was a critical issue as millions of subscribers, and hefty ad dollars, were at risk ahead of highly anticipated college and pro football seasons.
The dispute is over how much Fox is charging Google for its content, with Google claiming the prices are "far higher" than what other partners with similar content pay. The temporary deal means that major upcoming games, like the Texas vs. Ohio State college football matchup, will still be available for YouTube TV's 9.4 million subscribers.

4) Phoenix Suns Owners Sue Eachother
Two minority owners of the Phoenix Suns, Kisco WC Sports and Kent Circle Investments, are suing the team's majority owner, Mat Ishbia.
When Ishbia purchased the team, he offered to buy out the 16 minority owners, but these two declined. They are now taking the Suns to court in Delaware, claiming they have been denied access to key information about the team's operations, finances, and investments.
The lawsuit seeks to force transparency and allow the owners to investigate potential conflicts of interest. Some reports suggest the owners may be trying to gain leverage to sell their shares at a higher price than Ishbia's initial offer. The lawsuit will have no impact on fans or the team's performance.

5) WNBA CBA Deal Slow To Finalize
The WNBA and its players' union are hitting a snag in negotiations, and it looks like a new deal won't be in place by the October 31 deadline. The big issue? They can't agree on how to define and share the league's growing revenue.
This stalemate could have some serious ripple effects. A delay might pump the brakes on the league's two new expansion teams in Portland and Toronto and, even more critically, it could push back the start of free agency. With over 80% of players set to be out of contract this offseason, that's a huge deal.
