Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake

In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.

One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.

Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.

Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

1) Double Bubba: UNC to Pay 2 AD Salaries During Transition

The University of North Carolina has released employment agreements for its two top athletic officials during a planned 24-month leadership transition. Current athletic director Bubba Cunningham will be paid $903,000 annually for the next two years in a new "senior advisor" role. His successor, Steve Newmark, will earn $600,000 this year while shadowing Cunningham, and then $1 million annually as the official athletic director starting next summer.

For the 2026-27 academic year, UNC will be paying both men athletic director salaries. In his new role, Cunningham will focus on development and fundraising, and will be paid outside of the athletic department's budget. He is also eligible for additional longevity bonuses, which could mean he out-earns his successor during the transition year.

2) USAA Extends Long Term NFL Sponsorship

The NFL and USAA have extended their long-standing partnership, which focuses on honoring and supporting the military community. The new, long-term deal builds on 14 seasons of collaboration and will continue to provide unique experiences for military members, veterans, and their families.

Key highlights of the renewed partnership include:

  • Continued Military Appreciation: USAA will remain a key partner in military appreciation events throughout the NFL season, including the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, NFL Draft, and NFL Kickoff.

  • Salute to Service Award: USAA will continue as the presenting sponsor of the Salute to Service Award. Starting in 2026, USAA will donate an additional $10,000 to a military charity on behalf of each award finalist.

  • Global Reach: The partnership will enhance an annual event during the NFL's International Series, building on previous events at overseas military installations.

  • New TV Show: A one-hour show will debut in 2026, presented by USAA, that will highlight the Salute to Service programs of the league, its teams, and USAA.

3) Big 10 CFB Playoff Expansion Ideas 🏈

The Big Ten conference is proposing a radical expansion of the College Football Playoff from 12 to as many as 28 teams, a move that has already created significant friction among other conferences. The proposal was leaked to the media before other conference commissioners were officially informed, leading to frustration and criticism. Key points to the proposal include: format, impact on bowl games, and player motivation. The Big Ten and SEC hold the decisive voting power, but without a new agreement by the December 1st deadline, the College Football Playoff will remain at 12 teams.

4) 🏈 US Super Bowl Hosted In London?

London has its sights set on hosting the Super Bowl. The British ambassador to the U.S., Peter Mandelson, has made a formal pitch for the U.K. to host the first-ever international Super Bowl. While it may still be years away, the NFL's growing global presence—with more regular-season games being played abroad—makes the idea of an international Super Bowl a real possibility.

5) 👀 ESPN Won’t Air Kaepernick Documentary

A Spike Lee docuseries about former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been canceled due to "creative differences," according to a statement from ESPN. The project, which was in production since 2022 and included interviews with numerous public figures, will not be released.

The decision comes shortly after ESPN acquired some of the NFL’s media assets, giving the league a 10% ownership stake in the network, valued at an estimated $2.5 billion to $3 billion.

Kaepernick, who last played in the NFL in 2016, became a central figure in a national conversation on racial injustice after he began kneeling during the national anthem. The docuseries was set to explore his protest and its aftermath.
